Australian Sunshine State Classic Doubles Report

We would like to express our gratitude for the players that attended our inaugural competition. The amount of local players in such a large State with so many registered dart players was very disappointing, but the quality and the sportsmanship shown were exceptional. It was especially great and encouraging to see some of the top female players travel from WA, SA & NSW to offer their support in participating in our first event and showing our locals their talent in the game that we all aspire to!

The quality of the darts were a credit to all, and the only negative side of our first day, was the lack of commitment of a few of the losing combinations not following through their tournament responsibility of chalking to allow future games to continue in a smooth organised manner. This was very disappointing as the players concerned, were all experienced darts players, (some being State Reps) and one would have thought that they would be happy to set an example for our aspiring darties!!

Ladies Doubles

Very poor show with only 15 pairs nominating for the Ladies Doubles competition. However, the Ladies showed very consistent darts with most of the games Darts Federation of Australiabeing tightly contested and going to the wire.

The first quarterfinal was won by Louise Ball & Robyn McCloy, with a combine average of 19.46 against Julie Thomas & Kerry Crowdey whose average was 19.45, which highlights how close the actual game was played - Final result being 4 games to 3.

Corrine Hammond & Peta Whitlock 18.61 (right) defeated Kylie Townes & Jamie Loeber with a combined average 17.73 - 4 games to 1.

Darts Federation of AustraliaIn the finals, Louise & Robyn (right) were the victors, winning 5 games to 3. The individual averages were very close, Louise 17.86, Robyn 16.76, Corrine 17.81 & Peta 17.37.

A great effort to all players

In conclusion, we offer our appreciation to the game officials, organisers, venue staff, sponsors, and all volunteers who gave up their precious time to ensure that the event was co-ordinated with the precision and friendleness that is required in making it a successful event.

We hope that we will be in a position to host this event annually and the date will remain firm in the Queensland calendar and look forward to the continued support of our local and interstate players in the future years.

Australian Sunshine State Classic Singles

Here we are at day 2 of our Classic and the numbers have increased slightly for the Singles with 23 Ladies and 47 Men nominating for our debut event. Again, it was reassuring to have some Interstate Players participating, including a couple of visiting New Zealanders who performed very well throughout the day.

The qualifying round robin format ran a "little" overdue, so the player's (and Officials) had a very long day, but most took it in their stride and gave some positive and constructive feedback to the organiser's. I am sure that we have learnt a lot over the weekend and we are confident that the hiccups experienced this year will be resolved and we will be able to move forward and plan next year's event with the valuable insight gained this weekend. We did have a few player's comment; they definitely got plenty of games!

We again offer our appreciation to all players, our sponsors, and the volunteers for a great, (but tiring) tournament, and we hope to see you back next year, making and renewing new friendships.

Remember without all of you - there is NO event!

Congratulations to all competitors, as it is you that make any competition successful!
