Australian Sunshine Classic Report 2011

We believe that we have had a very successful tournament with extra entrants on our past two events. It was again encouraging to see players travel from NZ, WA, SA, Vic, NSW and Tas to compete – well done to all who made the effort and we hope that you enjoyed the journey and that we will see you back next year.

We had 73 entries for the Men’s singles events and 35 Ladies which is a good increase on last year’s totals. A bit disappointing with local entries being down on last year but we are sure that the players who participated will be back again next year (well we hope so).

There were some excellent darts thrown - a credit to all players, and again the only negative side of the two day event was the lack of commitment of a few of the losing combinations not following through their tournament responsibility of chalking to allow future games to continue. We all know the hassle of trying to get players to chalk and it is difficult to have players chalk for you, then you walk away to let others fill the void after your game! Come on dart players – if we all ignore our responsibilities, where will the game end up? A big thank you to all the competitors who did more than their fair share – well done!

Ladies Doubles
26 pairs nominated for the Ladies Doubles competition.

Sandra Smith (Tas) & Carol Forward (Vic) defeated local players, Linda Hockings & Val Wade in the first quarter final, whilst Corrine Hammond (NSW) & Melissa Sinnott (Vic) defeated the NSW doubles combination of Lavinia Hogg & Fran Shore.

Sunshine Classic

A great effort from all participants especially the juniors who have shown the seniors they are ready to take them on.

Great ambassadors for the future of darts!

Once again we offer our appreciation to the game officials, organisers, venue staff, sponsors, and all volunteers who gave up their precious time to ensure that all players had the opportunity to participate.

Whilst we acknowledge there were still a few small hiccups, we need to remember that the volunteers that run the event – do so in their own time with no rewards.

Sunshine Classic

We can only strive to do better each year and learn from our experiences.

Hope to see you all again next year!
