Too close to call in both teams competitions

Junior ChampionshipsThe first day or the Australian Junior Darts Teams Championship commenced at St Ailbe’s Hall in Launceston with both boys and girl’s in round robin action. Today saw the girls play three rounds and the boys play four rounds. Sunday will see the Teams event completed.

The title holders are Western Australia in the Girl’s and Queensland in the Boy’s competition, having won the titles in Morwell Victoria in 2011. The competition is very even this year so their maybe a few surprises and upsets along the way.

Junior ChampionshipsIn the Girl’s, Queensland are the hot favourite to take out the title with two rounds to go. They are the only team that has not lost a round. Western Australia the defending title holders were surprisingly defeated by South Australia in round three to put their defence in doubt. South Australia lost first up to New South Wales, but is still in contention if they can win their last two matches against Queensland and Victoria. The whole girl’s competition could come down to the last match when Western Australia plays Queensland. If Western Australia wins a tie breaking leg of darts maybe required to separate the two teams. If Queensland wins, they will win the title.

Results:
Round 1
QLD 7 – TAS 2, WA 7 – VIC 2, NSW 7 – SA 2
Round 2
WA 8 – NSW 1, QLD 7 – VIC 2, SA 6 – TAS 3
Round 3
QLD 9 – NSW 0, SA 6 – WA 3, TAS 6 – VIC 3

Junior ChampionshipsIn the Boy’s after four rounds Queensland are still on track to defend their title. They have a testing day ahead with two big matches to play. Queensland and Victoria have both won all their matches so far, and Western Australia are lurking quietly with just the one loss and will play a big part in deciding who will win the title. The first crunch round will be round six when either Queensland or Victoria are going to lose a match. Queensland also has to play Western Australia in round seven. If Queensland defeats Victoria, and Western Australia defeats Queensland, all which is possible we could see a three team tiebreaker to find our champions. Tasmania and South Australia may also want to have a say in how this all pans out. The teams are so evenly matched.
