'The Count' is back

The English 'Count'
Ted Hankey blasted the
38 year old Dutchman Roland Scholten off the board in a one sided final in the 2003 Dutch Open held at the Hotel de Koninghof in Veldhoven.
The 2000 Embassy World Champion, who won that title in considerable style with a 170 checkout, should that style again winning the final in three straight sets. Scholten nick named 'The Tripod' only got going in the third set where he won two legs, but it was all too late. Ted won the first leg in the final set, before Scholten won the next two legs, but that was it. Hankey won the next two legs to take the third set and the Dutch Open Singles title.

Hankey (pictured right) was in pretty good form all day. The 35 years old accounted for Finish star Jarkko Komula in the quarter finals. This was a tight contest, but Ted took the match 3-1.

Next match and Hankey were up against Raymond van Barneveld and the crowd. Barneveld nick named 'Barney' is a national hero in the Netherlands and he was playing before
his beloved home crowd and they were in full support. This was an incredible match with both players in blistering form.
To the surprise of the crowd Hankey took the first set in three straight legs.

Both players were averaging over 35 per dart with the second set squared away at 2 legs each.

It was Hankey's day as he took that fifth leg and a place in the 25th Dutch Open final against Scholten (pictured left).

Men's Pairs
Australia's Tony David and Raymond Van Barneveld (right) played their way through the strong 1156 Men's Pairs field to take the final at the Dutch Open.
They defeated Englishmen Tony Martin and the 2002 Winmau Champion Mark Dudbridge in their semi final winning 3-2 before taking on Shaun Greatbatch and Bob Taylor (England/Scotland)
in the final.

The Aussie/Dutch combination were in devastating form, losing just one leg in the first set, and winning the second set 3-0.
A cheque for€1.250,00 went their way.

Ladies Singles

The Ladies Singles Final was the closest contested match all day. Belgium's Sandra Pollet (right) played brilliant darts to take the Ladies Dutch Open Singles away from defending Champion Francis Hoenselaar. Pollet did not have an easy path to the title, accounting for Dutch player Karin Krappen in the quarter finals and England's Crissy Howat in the semi finals. In the final, Francis Hoenselaar won the first set 3-1, only to see Pollet take the next set with the same shoreline to even up the match. The next two sets went the full five legs with Pollet winning both sets and the title 3-1. Pollet picked up  1.815,00 in winning from nearly 600 ladies players.

Ladies Pairs

Francis Hoenselaar and Trina Gulliver picked up  680,00 in defending their Dutch Pairs title. The two top ladies in world darts at the current time easily defeated England's Sally Smith and Clare Bywaters in straight sets. The defending Champion's did not drop a leg in the final. Francis Hoenselaar and Trina Gulliver were in good form in the semi finals when they accounted for the Dutch pair of Miranda Haasnoot and Danielle Hartog, but lifted their performance in the final even more to take the title.
