Gulliver At The End of Her Travels

Lakeside joy for Trina Gulliver in 2002

England's Trina Gulliver will be looking for a fairytale ending to a glittering career at the 2003 Women's World Darts Championships.
The 33-year-old returns to the Lakeside Country Club, the scene of a memorable title victory in 2002, for what might be the last time.
Having won the world crown twice and been at the top of the rankings for four years, Gulliver believes the time may be right to pack away her tungstens.

"The next thing on my agenda is my family," she said.
"It might be a year before that happens or it might be as little as six months, depending on what my husband and I decide.

"I might keep up my county darts, which would give me much more of a chance of playing for England.

"I would miss playing for my country more than being world number one, more than winning any tournament.
So this time next year I might not be around."

Whatever she eventually decides, her priority is to win the women's championship for third successive time.

Last year she added her second crown when she beat Netherlands player Francis Hoenselaar, 2-1, in what was a thrilling contest.

Hoenselaar is back again, although the two will not meet until the final, assuming they get through the two earlier rounds.

The Dutchwoman holds the number one spot this season, although that statistic is unlikely to worry Gulliver.

"I had a slight edge on Francis over the years when I was number one," added the Englishwoman.

"Then I dropped off from about the Welsh Open at the end of May last year. Now I think I'm coming back."
