BAVARIA WORLD DARTS TROPHY
Vechtsebahen Complex, Utrecht,
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th to SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th, 2004
The world’s top players – Men and Women - who committed themselves
to the World Professional Darts Championships and Winmau World
Masters, will compete in the third BDO ranked BAVARIA
WORLD DARTS TROPHY. It will be played over nine consecutive days in the massive
3,000 plus capacity Vechtsebahen Complex in the Dutch town of
Utrecht.
Players from eleven countries - including Russian sensation
Anastasia Dobromyslova, 2004 Finland Open Champion and 2004 German
Open Semi-Finalist – will be competing for a prize fund of over
200,000 Euros.
With the same playing format as the World Professional Darts
Championships, the Bavaria WDT will once again be televised by
SBS-6, the premier darts broadcaster in The Netherlands.
In the Men’s Championship, defending Champion RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD
(NETH) is the No.1 Seed, and 2003 runner-up MERVYN KING (ENG)
is seeded No.2. Australia’s own Tony David (left) is seeded at
No.5 and Steve Duke is also a participant in this year’s field.
A little more time (several more weeks) separates the Australian
Darts Championships and the 3rd Bavaria WDT giving both players
more time to prepare. In 2003 Tony David made it through to the
semi finals before being knocked out by Raymond van Barneveld.
Steve Duke (right) knocked out the 2002 finalist Tony O’Shea
(Eng) in the first round, but was not so lucky in the second
round missing out to Colin Monk.
Unfortunately Ritchie Davies had to turn down the invitation
due to his busy schedule at work. During that period the IT-specialist
is in America for business reasons. Davies is replaced by Dutch
André Brantjes who was so successful in the recent Tempus
International Darts League.
And it’s the same in the Women’s Singles, where defending champion
TRINA GULLIVER (ENG) and 2003 runner-up FRANCIS HOENSELAAR (NETH)
will be seeded No.1 and 2 respectively.
