Qld and WA strikes early at the Australian Junior Darts Championships

Queensland and Western Australia have dominated day one of the Australian Junior Darts Championships.

Following the Opening Ceremony, the first event for the week the Girl and Boy's Australian Doubles were contested.

A Queensland and Western Australian pairings made both finals with each State taking one final each.

The round robin competition was split into two pools, which saw very close competition in the boy's event.

In Pool 'A' saw a very close competition with the Queensland pairing and 2001 Doubles Finalists
Josh Kime and Chris Wood (pictured right) losing 2-1 to the WA pairing of Kyle Anderson and
Mitchell Gardiner.

However, both combinations made it into the finals with the Western Australians topping the pool with 6 wins 12 legs.

In Pool 'B', again competition was very tight, with all combinations losing at least one round.

The pairings to move into the semi finals were Tasmania's Dwayne Seabourne and
Rhys Mathewson who topped the pool with 5 wins 11 legs, just one leg in front of the
South Australia's Shannon Patterson and Aaron Kocjanicic with 5-10.
The two pairings from Pool "A" moved into the final for another crack at each other.

Anderson and Gardiner were more consistent and accounted for SA's Patterson and Kocjanicic while Kime and Wood defeated Seabourne and Mathewson.
The Final saw some brilliant darts thrown.

WA's Anderson and Gardiner won the battle against the Qld's for
the second time during the day, taking the final 3-0 with Kyle Anderson (pictured left) just outstanding. Highlight of the final was the brilliance of a Kyle who averaged an in creditable 32.151 in the final.

The Girl's were not to be out down by the Boy's. Their competition was just as close.

Kathleen Logue and Melissa Mundy from the Northern territory finished in top place in
Pool "A" after defeating all opposition.

They completed the round robin with 6 wins and 12 legs. Queensland's Pere' one Matson and Brie Peters with 4 wins and 9 legs were the other semi finalists.
In Pool 'B' Queensland's Lauren Peters and
Felicity Allen and 2001 Girl's Doubles Finalists (pictured right) were back to contest the finals again, but lost one round to the Pool winners in Western Australians Lauren West and
Danielle Kenney.

The first semi final saw Queensland's Peters and Allen take victory over Logue and Mundy of the N.T. and move into the grand final.

There opposition, like the Boy's came from the same Pool.

WA's West and Kenney accounted for the other Queensland combination of Matson and Peters to take their place in the final.

The Grand Final saw a very close contest.

In the early rounds in Pool "B" West and Kenney defeated Peters and Allen 2-1.

In this match, Peters and Allen gained revenge and satisfaction, winning 3-2.

The revenge for the loss earlier in the day and the satisfaction of winning the title after losing the grand final at the last Australian Junior Darts Championships in Adelaide.

Tomorrow sees the first four rounds of the Australian Teams Championships.

The Queensland Darts Association (QDA) is hosting the 22nd Australian Darts Championships for the Darts Federation of Australia at the Inala Darts Centre in Brisbane.

Over 70 of Australia's best youth players will be contesting these Championships, which run from the 12th-18th of January 2003.
