New
South Wales and Western Australia have dominated day one of the
Australian Junior Darts Championships. Following the Opening
Ceremony,
the first event for the week the Girl and Boy’s Australian
Doubles were contested. The round robin competition was split into two pools, which saw very close competition in the boy’s event. In Pool ‘A’ saw a very close competition with the Queensland pairing and 2001 & 2002 Doubles Finalists Josh Kime and Chris Wood (right) defeating 2-0 the WA pairing of Kyle Anderson and Damon Heta. However, the Queensland pair lost two games, one to South Australia’s Shannon Patterson & Bradley Coulson 2–0 and Victoria’s Chris Gritty & Scott Cooke 2-1. The Western Australian pair won all of their remain games and both combinations made it into the finals with the Western Australians topping the pool with 5 wins 10 legs. In Pool ‘B’, again competition was very tight, with all combinations losing at least one round. The pairings to move into the semi finals were Western Australia’s Trenton Phillips & Justin Miles who topped the pool with 5 wins 11 legs, just one leg in front of the Queensland Pair of Matt Mullen & Shaun Bracken with 5-10. The two pairings from Pool “A” moved into the final for another crack at each other. Anderson and Heta were more consistent and accounted for the Queensland pair of Matt Mullen & Shaun Bracken 3-1 in the first semi final while Kime and Wood defeated the other Western Australian combination of Trenton Phillips & Justin Miles 3-0 in the other semi final. |

The Final was shaping
up to be a cracker with all players throwing great averages in the
semi
finals. After a shaky start both pairings
were unable to recapture their form from the semis, the WA pair controlled
their nerves better and pulled away for a 3-1 victory and the title of
Australian Junior Boys Doubles Champions. WA’s Anderson and Heta (right) had won the battle against the Qld’s pair accounting for their loss earlier in the day. Unfortunately for Josh Kime and Chris Wood, they would be losing finalists once again. In Pool ’B’ New South Wales pairing of Cindy Parrott and Belinda Velanff came through the round robin unscathed with a record of 6 wins and 12 legs. Joining them in the semi finals were Queensland’s Danielle Fischer and Pare-one Matson who lost rounds to the NSW pair and Victoria’s Emma Raines & Joanne Foord, both games having a score line of 2-1. The first semi final saw Queensland’s Brie Peters and Raylee
Parsons take victory with a 3-2 in a very close match over fellow Queenslanders
Danielle Fischer and Pare-one Matson and move into the grand final.
Their opposition would come from Pool ‘B’ and was the New
South Wales pairing of Cindy Parrott and Belinda Velanff who accounted
for the Western Australia’s Danielle Kenny and Kristen Nunn 3-1
to take their place in the final. The Grand Final saw a very close contest. The final
started with the NSW pairing of Cindy Parrott and Belinda Velanff
(right) breaking away
winning the first two legs, only to see the Queenslander’s fight
back strongly to take the next two legs. To the deciding leg and Queensland
were away first. The NSW pair hit double top to win 3-2 and become
the newly crowned 2004 Australian Junior Girls Doubles Champions. |
