From Margaret Krause for the VDC Day 7 – Final Day Well its official, Queensland have won the Champion State title for 2004 after a tough fight from western Australia. The Youth Masters with one boy and one girl from each State competing in a round robin best of five legs format was played simultaneously with the Host Drawn Mixed Doubles. This is a fun day for the kids when they are drawn with players from other States. They had a ball with the final being played between Bianca Ring (VIC) who was a late minute stand in from Altona and Queensland’s Shaun Brackin and winners Jenna Griffiths (SA) and Trenton Phillips (WA). The final score being 3-2. Kyle Anderson threw the most 180’s with thirteen for the Championships. A great effort. Brie Peters topped the girls with three. At 4 o’clock the Presentations took place in the Beach Room of the Altona Sports Club. Barry Duncan – DFA Vice President presenting the trophies. Barry first presented the World Cup Trophy to Kathleen Logue and Kyle Anderson. All of the trophies were presented and Neil Jordan (Secretary/Manager of the Altona Sports Club) thanked all the Players, Captain’s and Officials and said it was a privilege to host the Championships. Barry Duncan closed the Championships and wished everyone a safe trip home and on to Tasmania in 2005. Well the Championships wound up with the Dinner in the Club Dinning Room where everyone had a great time. This is the first report I have ever done on the juniors, and I must say that I found the kids to be absolutely great. Nothing was too much trouble; they were friendly and a joy to work with. The future of darts is in good hands. Also the Captain’s and Manager’s were a credit to their States and I was I was proud to do the write ups for the 2004 Championships. Good luck next year in Tasmania! Snippets On the lighter side, which player swam the channel next to the venue in his undies for a $20.00 bet? Greg Rideout had a birthday at the Championships. He was presented with a cake and everyone sang Happy Birthday. Guess how old? |
