Queensland Girl’s takes Junior Darts Teams Events

Queensland’s Junior Girl’s Darts Teams continue to dominate the 23rd Puma Australian Darts Championships at the Altona Sports Club in Melbourne today. Teams competitions were completed with the Queensland Girls Teams winning the title of Australian Teams Champions for the third year in a row after winning the title in Adelaide and Brisbane. This is their fifth time the Queensland Girls have won this title since the commencement of Australian Junior Darts Championships.

A very tight Girls Teams Championship in 2004 made for some very exciting darts being thrown by the girls. OK Queensland won the title but they really had to fight for it this year. Last year they won the event undefeated, but that first round lose to the Northern Territory put the acid test on them. They were able to come through that test winning their next five rounds reasonably comfortably.

The strength of junior darts in Queensland is evident with this team as it has a little bit of experience (Pare’one Matson and Brie Peters – 2nd year players) and new enthusiasm (Danielle Fischer and Raylee Parsons – Rookies) helped them through this event as all players put in a great effort. Their Captain has been Leonie Campbell.

The battle for second place went right down to the wire with three states battling for that placing. New South Wales, Northern Territory and South Australia were all in the mix.

Starting the day in round five saw Northern Territory and South Australia front each other. The winner of this match would remain in contention for the title. The loser would have two loses and would not be able to catch up enough ground in the remaining two rounds. The Territory took the honours in a very close contest 4-3.

New South Wales was still in contention at the round six stage. They were to play Queensland in this round but they lost 2-5, which ended their hope of the title.

With New South Wales and New South Wales with two loses after round six, only Queensland and the Northern Territory remained with title chances. The Northern Territory won its final round match against Victoria 5-2 and Queensland just defeated Western Australia 4-3.

This left the Northern Territory and Queensland on equal wins so legs was going to separate these two Teams. Queensland had won more six more legs to claim the title. Queensland 10points and 30 legs, Northern Territory 10 points 24 legs.

New South Wales with 8-25 claimed third place, with South Australia (8-24) taking fourth spot.

Western Australia had a tough time of it this year. Unfortunately they have sustained injuries to two off their players. Emily Wills of Victoria stepped into the Western Australian Team much to her amazement and for the trill of her life. Emily, who unfortunately could not try out for Victorian selection as she had other commitments, was ecstatic that she could now play in a Championship.
