Queensland Boy's grab second Australian Fours title. The success of the Queensland Junior Darts Team continued on from where they left off in 2009 winning today at the 29th Australian Junior Darts Championships at Inala Darts Club in Brisbane. They proved too strong and consistent in the Australian Youth Fours for every other team in the Boy's competition while in the Girl's they placed second to the Western Australian Team. Both competitions were very closely contested with tiebreakers required to finalise the minor placing.
The Australian Youth Fours was introduced in 2007. All players can partake in this event and every player really enjoys the concept of the game and the quick pace at which it is played. Every player had plenty of darts to throw. It gives Captains an opportunity to see how well their players were performing and those states with five players were able to swap a player at the start of each round if they wanted too.
The Western Australian Team (left) of Jucinta Dann, Krissy Smith, Edwina Dryden and Lee-Anne Watkins showed their darting style in winning the first event on the program at this year Australian Junior Darts Championships. They were able to hold off any challenge that was put up to them winning this title for the very first time. They completed the round robin event undefeated but it took some hard fought victories over the day to clinch the title, especially their game against Queensland where a tiebreaking leg was required to win the match.
The battle for second place would be decided from three Teams - Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales. At the end of the round robin, these three teams were equal on three wins. A tiebreaker was required to split the placings. Rebecca Webster represented Queensland, Asha Gurd for South Australia and Amy Clegg represented NSW (pictured right) in the tiebreaker. In this tiebreaker all three players played on the same board and had to win two legs of 501 to win. Rebecca Webster was first to win two legs giving her team second place overall.
The Queensland Girls Team (left) ended up placing second at the end of competition. Representing Queensland were Rebecca Webster, Elle Ward, Cassie Bracklin and Toni Konui. They suffered just the two lose to New South Wales (9- 8) in the third round and Western Australia in the final round (9 - 8).
The battle for minor placings saw New South Wales finish third, South Australia finish fourth, Victoria fifth with one win and unfortunately the Tasmanian girls could not get a win on the board finishing in sixth place.
The better performing players in this event were Rebecca Webster and Elle Ward from Queensland, Jucinta Dann and Krissy Smith from Western Australia, Chloe Hoskinson from Tasmania, Melissa Sica from New South Wales, Kelsey Warren from South Australia and Renee Plucinski from Victoria.
Right from the start of the Boy's event Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania looked like the Teams to beat. Queensland was very impressive early winning their matches strongly against the Northern Territory Victoria New South Wales and Tasmania. At the same time Tasmania had victories over South Australia, New South Wales, Northern Territory and Victoria but lost their second round match to
Queensland. Western Australia started sluggishly losing their first two rounds to New South Wales and South Australia. They won the next two rounds leaving them Queensland and Tasmania to play. They won both those rounds to give them four wins. With Tasmania losing its second match to Western Australia they too had lost two rounds. Queensland (right) had suffered just the one loss to Western Australia (9 - 8) so the title was theirs.
In the end, no team went through undefeated. Queensland was represented by Harlee Chauntler, Leslie Blair, Robbie King and Peter Schumann. They had plenty of support and gelled well as a team and played great darts all day. They did have several other close matches against the Northern Territory and New South Wales indicating how close the boy's competition is in 2010.
Western Australia (left) did finish in second place (4 wins 48 legs), after Blake Hatchett defeated Nathan Seabourne from Tasmania (below) in a tiebreaker which was required to separate the two teams. These two Teams played each other in the last round which WA won, costing Tasmania second spot. Playing for Western Australia was Conan Ugle, Blake Hatchett, Alex Jones and Dylan Dunster. Tasmania placed third with 4 wins and 45 legs,
Victoria fourth, New South Wales fifth, South Australia sixth and Northern Territory with one win finished seventh. Victoria were very unlucky in this event this year winning three rounds but also lost two matches against Tasmania and Western Australia 9 - 8 losing them in tiebreakers.
Player to shine in today's event were Luke Sipple and Guy Holland from New South Wales, Conan Ugle and Blake Hatchett from Western Australia, Harlee Chauntler and Robbie King from Queensland Nathan Seabourne from Tasmania, Sam Ballinger from Victoria, Jackson Wilson-Young from the Northern Territory and Phillip Stuart from South Australia.
