ENGLAND CAPTAINS AT No.1 FOR WDF WORLD CUP XV

Martin AdamsMARTIN ADAMS (left) and TRINA GULLIVER (below) will both captain their respective England teams in their defence of the coveted WDF World Cup XV in Perth, Australia as World No.1's. In what is believed to be a unique 'first', Martin Adams became No.1 in the WDF Men's World rankings after reaching the Semi-Finals of the recent BDO British Classic, and Trina consolidated her position as No.1 in the WDF Women's World rankings when she won the Women's Singles at the BDO British Classic.

"I don't think that two national team captains have ever been to the WDF World Cup as the respective No.1's in the WDF world rankings", says Olly Croft, Secretary General of the World Darts Federation. "I am delighted for Martin and Trina, because both are proud captains of England and thoroughly deserve their positions as No.1 in the world.
Certainly England is on a high as they go to Perth as favourites to defend the titles they won in France two years ago. Martin is delighted to be World No.1, and is joined by teammate MERVYN KING, who is ranked No.2 in the world rankings. Similarly, Trina's teammate CLARE BYWATERS, who has never been beaten in an England shirt, is world ranked No.3".

Trina GulliverOne of the outstanding highlights will be the WDF Youth World Cup, which will feature outstanding youngsters like 12 year-old KIMBERLEY LEWIS and 13 year-old JAMIE LEWIS (no relation) representing Wales. They have already enjoyed considerable success on the oche and their talent epitomises the ongoing future of WDF/BDO darts.
Two more for the future are England's 16 year-old youth stars, ROSS SMITH and KELLIE HAMMOND.

Australia's 'home' team for men includes two outstanding Lakeside favourites - 2002 World Professional Champion TONY DAVID, and 2005 World Pro Semi-Finalist SIMON WHITLOCK, now firmly established as Australia's No.1 ranked player.

To give some idea of the growing worldwide appeal of WDF/BDO darts, in addition to our home countries, the 2005 WDF World Cup XV will include teams from India, Japan, America, Russia, the Bahamas, Canada and the Philippines to name but a few.
